Administration and Organization

General Information

A laboratory animal facility is any system of housing and care that permits animals to grow, mature, reproduce, and behave normally and to be maintained in physical comfort and good health. Proper management of an animal laboratory facility depends on many subjective and objective factors that interact differently in different institutions. Well-trained and motivated personnel can ensure high quality care, even in the presence of deficiencies in the physical plant or housing equipment.

The Essentials of Proper Management Include:

  1. Environmental control
  2. Genetic control
  3. Welfare of the animals for validity of data
  4. Health and safety of animal care personnel

What are the major concerns today in Animal Husbandry?
       - By far the emphasis today is preventative health management which includes:

  1. General Husbandry
  2. Circumstances or factors predisposing animals to disease
  3. Methods of facility sanitation

This site attempts to cover some of the concerns of operating an animal laboratory.
